Every woman who prepares meals for her family follows the paradigm of healthy eating. When looking for a tasty yet nutritious supper, fish is usually an excellent option. Fish is often consumed by my household at least twice a week.
Despite the fact that my sons prefer a less nutritious version of Fish ‘n’ Chips, I make an effort to be a little more inventive. We can all agree that halibut tastes delicious when it is properly prepared, therefore I have done extensive study and tested out several methods.
I’ve thought of some of my favorites. They usually need some time and work, but they make up for it in style!
Best Halibut Recipes
It would be best if your husband or son could catch a fresh halibut, but the chances are that you are going to buy it. I prefer fillets to steaks, but they lose moisture very quickly, so be sure to wrap them in the foil before storing them in the fridge.
Try to choose a bit thicker fillets since they will remain soft and juicy after you bake them. Also, bear in mind that you have to add some liquid while cooking halibut, or else it will turn out dry.
1. Wine Halibut
My personal favorite, one cannot make a mistake when combining fish and white wine. Do not be afraid to serve this dish to your children – all the alcohol evaporates during the baking.
It is also very quick to prepare; it takes just 25 minutes, baking time included.
Ingredients
The ingredients you will need for a family of four are:
- Four halibut fillets
- 3/4 cup Chardonnay
- Juice from two lemons
- One tsp salt
- One tsp pepper
- Two tsp of Italian seasoning
- Three minced cloves of garlic
- Four tsp of olive oil.
Preparation
- Oil a baking dish and lay the halibut fillets in it, leaving just a little room for the liquid. Season with salt and pepper.
- Use a bowl to mix the white wine with lemon juice, garlic, seasoning, and olive oil.
- Pour the mixture over the halibut.
- Preheat the oven to 375 degrees and bake the fillets for 20 minutes. When the time is up, remove the dish from the oven immediately and let it rest for about 10 to 15 minutes.
You can serve it with baked potatoes or rice pilaf. The adult members of your family can spice it up with the wine sauce.

2. Parmesan and Mayonnaise Halibut
This recipe can easily be used for almost any fish fillet, and it is also rather simple. The taste, however, is divine. My children especially appreciate the Parmesan, since they love it in their pasta.
Ingredients
The ingredients you will need for the family of four are:
- Four halibut fillets
- 3/4 tsp salt
- 3/4 tsp ground black pepper
- Six tsp lemon juice
- Four tsp mayonnaise
- Two minced garlic cloves
- One tsp mustard
- Two tsp grated Parmesan cheese
- One sliced green onion and
- (Optional) 1/4 tsp Tabasco sauce

Preparation
- Once again you start with laying the halibut fillets in the baking dish. Season the fillets with salt and pepper and sprinkle with four tsp of lemon juice.
- Bake for up to fifteen minutes in the oven preheated to 450 degrees (you can use an oven thermometer). If the fillets are very thick, you can bake them a bit longer.
- In the meantime, prepare the cheese topping by combining two tsp lemon juice, mayonnaise, garlic, Parmesan, Tabasco, mustard, and green onion.
- Remove the fillets from the oven and turn them to broil. Spread the topping and return to the oven for another minute or two.
I serve it with roasted vegetables to add some color and nutrients.

3. Halibut Pasta
Like any other pasta, this recipe is a great choice when you have a large party of guests coming over. It can easily serve six adults, but it is also great for kids since all children like pasta.
My boys will eat almost anything if I combine it with well-cooked pasta.
Ingredients
The ingredients you will need for the group of six:
- One lb of halibut, cut into pieces
- One onion
- One green pepper
- One cup sliced mushrooms
- Two minced garlic cloves
- Two stalks celery
- Two sliced carrots
- 3/4 cup of cut cauliflower
- 3/4 cup broccoli floret
- One sliced zucchini
- One teaspoon oregano
- Two teaspoons parsley
- One teaspoon basil
- 3/4 teaspoon pepper
- One pack of pasta of your choice.
For the white sauce, you will need:
- Two tablespoons of butter
- Three tablespoons flour
- One cup of milk
- 3/4 cup half-and-half cream
- One cup of grated Monterey jack cheese
- 3/4 cup sour cream
- One tablespoon chicken bouillon
Preparation
- Saute onion, mushrooms, pepper, garlic, and celery for about five minutes.
- Add all the sliced vegetables, stir and keep on the low heat until tender.
- Season with oregano, parsley, basil, and pepper.
- Finally, add halibut chunks and leave them to simmer while you cook pasta and white sauce.
- Melt butter and add flour, mix until well combined, and then slowly add milk and half&half and stir until it becomes thick enough.
- Add Monterey Jack Cheese, sour cream, and chicken bouillon and stir until it becomes creamy.
- Pour the sauce over the fish and vegetable mixture and serve over pasta.
4. Garden Halibut
This might be the healthiest halibut dish out there. I named it Garden halibut since I used all the vegetables from my garden while preparing it.
It also takes longer to prepare, about 45 minutes to be exact. It is a colorful dish, a real eye-catcher, that you can present to your guests too.
Ingredients
The ingredients you will need for the family of four are:
- Four halibut steaks
- Salt and ground pepper to taste
- Three peeled and chopped tomatoes
- One chopped green paper
- One chopped onion
- One chopped hot paper
- Three tsp butter
- Two tsp lemon juice
- One teaspoon Tabasco sauce if you like it hot
Preparation
- Use a lightly buttered baking dish and lay the halibut steaks. Salt and pepper the fish before you place it in the baking dish.
- Mix tomato, green pepper, onion, and hot pepper, and apply the mix to each fish steak.
- Fuse lemon juice and Tabasco with the melted butter and sprinkle over fish steaks.
- Preheat the oven to 400 degrees and bake for roughly 25 minutes, basting with pan juices every 10 minutes.
This is a great recipe, just be sure to keep basting while it is in the oven, as often as possible or the halibut will turn out dry instead of flaky.
Extra tip: you can substitute the halibut with the chicken breasts and enjoy a great chicken dish too. Interested to find out how many chicken breasts in a cup? Reading this article will make measuring chicken breasts easier for sure.
